About the artist
The artist’s curiosity towards art and his ambition of documenting personality in his paintings led him to create his four main phases of style. Sagaelu is a self-taught artist who strives to nurture his techniques every day. He is inspired by the turmoil of life and describes his present works as if they are “coming out from a virtual melting pot of silence” which allows him to handle and manage the chaos while improving himself.
“My personal work currently focuses on abstract work. My attempt is to paint on a surface a story I need to tell myself first. My deepest wish is to convey emotions and to allow the viewer to project himself and his own experiences in my art. Art to me is my most amazing, powerful chance to feel free to decide.” This statement by the artist projects his vision and concept.
Sagaelu’s work is influenced by music, mostly by compositions of David Sylvian, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, and Ludovico Einaudi. Sagaelu approached visual arts very early in life and has worked mostly on commissioned projects. As in music Sagaelu’s work can be delicate or overpowering, elegant or robust, soft or powerful according to feelings, sentiments and emotions.
Sagaelu discovered our islands in 2012 and six months later he moved to Malta. Today, the artist focuses on his art works developing new techniques and personal styles.
Sagaelu was brought up in a middle class family in Italy, Genova. His family comes from German, Italian and French ancestry. At the young age of 17, Sagaelu left home and migrated to France. He later moved to Germany, the US, Italy and France. In Germany he lived and worked for about 30 years.
