Malta’s carnival is one of the most celebrated events of the year and a fantastic and popular attraction for visitors.

Full of unique character and flair, Malta’s carnival is a feast of extremes with massive colourful floats, loud music and endless dancing.  The carnival tradition is centuries-old, dating back to the arrival of the Knights of St John in 1535, although there are studies which indicate that the first carnival celebration dates back even further, to the year 1470. But, even though its exact roots may not be known for certain, carnival has completely entrenched itself in Maltese tradition over the years.
