The Xara Palace Relais & Châteaux has added a Palazzino suite to its room inventory, making a stay at The Xara Palace, one of the most romantic experiences in the Maltese Islands. Palazzino Belvedere, a true living timepiece of Maltese history from the 17th-Century and the most beautifully restored palace in Mdina. With decorative double doors that open out onto a stunning two-bedroom palazzino and spanning back to the Medieval period.

The joie de vivre takes on a new lens at Palazzino Belvedere – the Palazzino itself is brimming with an abundance of historical artefacts and awe-inspiring artwork, with traditional Maltese 14th century tiles adorning the floor and honey-coloured stone walls that set the tone for a truly enchanting escape within the old capital of Malta. Guests will step inside the palazzino to reveal a stunning unique internal courtyard, perfect for warmer evenings, inviting natural sunlight and a breeze of fresh air throughout the palazzino, overlooking the breathtaking Maltese countryside and beyond. From the highest of ceilings to a charming vault which once connected an underground route to St Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina in times of war, Palazzino Belvedere provides the perfect blend of timelessness and modern living for those wishing to immerse themselves in a piece of Maltese history.

The ground floor of Palazzino Belvedere promises a surprise at every turn, with a large dining room boasting ornate stone flooring, captivating artwork and a statement Calypso Murano Glass chandelier, comfortably seating six people. Guests will also discover a traditional corridor kitchenette, as well as a stone staircase that leads to the downstairs basement, home to a wine cellar and perfect for a cool escape from the warmth of Maltese summer.

On the first floor, a king-sized bed literally fit for a King awaits, with fine linen and plush cushions, ensuring a wonderful rest under the gaze of a beautifully opulent watercolour painting by FC Mullock. The master bedroom is full of charm, with high ceilings, traditional Maltese tiles, sumptuous furnishings and panoramic views of Malta – guests will feel like royalty, drifting away in their very own palace. An equally charming, interconnected living room is beautifully furnished with classic yet timeless furniture; a true space to relax and unwind. Hanging above the living room is an ornate palatial chandelier that is as captivating as the palazzino itself, along with a timeless Macchina dela Luce lamp produced by Catellani & Smith and tapestries that date back to the 18th century. Finally, the living room boasts modern touches with a surround sound system and TV Beosound Theatre System.

Stepping up the winding staircase, guests will discover a breathtaking terrace with unbeatable views of the rolling Maltese landscape, another incredibly unique feature to Palazzino Belvedere, offering yet another aspect to the 17th century palace suite. Perfect for honeymooners or those looking for a celebratory escape, Palazzino Belvedere has it all, with complimentary champagne awaiting on arrival and a Personal Experience Curator for guest’s every need. Breakfast is served at the de Mondion at The Xara Palace or guests are welcome to order room service.

Palazzino Belvedere can sleep three adults or two adults and two children, boasting two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, internal courtyard, corridor kitchen and basement area, with three terraces and two balconies, all with views overlooking the Maltese Islands and the historical streets of Mdina. Guests of Palazzino Belvedere can also enjoy the fitness room on the ground floor of The Xara Palace and the seasonal outdoor pool, located on the outskirts of Rabat, just a 5-minute drive from the property.
