The De Mondion Restaurant together with another four local restaurants received the prestigious Michelin Star Award, after being included in the 2021 Michelin Guide for Malta, which is now in its second edition.

The presentation took place in the Mdina Ditch, a stone’s throw away from The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux, that houses our Michelin Starred Restaurant. Followed by a quick reception at the de Mondion’s shaded terrace.

The event was attended by representatives of all the Michelin Starred Restaurants, Minister for Tourism Hon. Clayton Bartolo, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority Johan Buttigieg and Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, Dr. Gavin Gulia. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Gulia, said that “the MTA welcomes the second edition of the Malta Michelin Guide which is yet again, another step in the right direction for our quality restaurants. Malta has, over time become known for its gastronomy, which oftentimes goes beyond Mediterranean cuisine.

This second edition of the Malta Michelin Guide is another reason, why people should look forward to coming to Malta in the coming months, for the holiday they need after the months of sacrifices which we all had to endure.”

Referring to the fact that five restaurants where this year singled out for their sustainable practices, Dr Gulia said that this falls in line with the Malta Tourism Strategy which the Authority and the Ministry have put in place for the next ten years, where sustainable tourism is being placed at the forefront, together with attracting higher quality tourists.
Whilst congratulating all the restaurants who were recognised by Michelin, Dr Gulia thanked all the restaurants across the Maltese Islands, for the resilience which they have shown during the months of the pandemic.
